Carry On Baggage
For travellers flying on Basic Economy ticket, only one personal item is allowed. However, those passengers who are Premier members or primary MileagePlus credit card members and are flying on Basic Economy ticket are allowed to bring in one full size carry on bag as well. All others travelling on Basic Economy ticket and bringing in a full size carry on luggage are required to transfer it to check in and pay the required check in baggage fee and a handling charge of $25.
All other customers, who are travelling in other classes of travel, can bring in one carry on baggage and one personal item.
The personal item can be 22cm * 25cm *43cm in dimensions. It can be a laptop bag, shoulder bag, purse or other small item.
The carry on bag shall be 22cm*35cm*56cm in dimensions.
Besides personal item and carry on bag, passengers are also allowed to bring in jacket/coat, reading material, assistive devices, diaper bag, child restraint system or child seat, breast pump and pet carrier.
Musical Instruments– Small musical instruments such as violin, guitar allowed in cabin provided these are put in hard case and can be put in overhead bins or under the front seats. These are allowed as a part of the cabin baggage allowance.
Liquids,Aerosols and Gels– Allowed in cabin in packs of not more than 100ml volume. These can be kept in a single litre size (or quart- size) resealable plastic bag.
Check In Baggage
Check in baggage allowance for United Airlines passengers depend on service class of travel and MileagePlus membership status. There are five different classes of travel on United Airlines. These are United Economy, United Business, United First, United Polaris first class and United Polaris business class. Also, there are four levels of Mileage Plus membership- Premier Silver, Premier Gold, Premier Platinum and Premier 1K, besides the Star Alliance Gold membership.
United Economy- Max check in bag weight is 23 kg
Other classes- Max check in bag weight allowed is 32 kg
Premier Silver members- Max weight per check in bag is 23 kg
All other membership levels- Max weight per check in bag is 32 kg
